Kinetic Light Installation

Idea :
Else is a renowned club in Berlin, featuring one of the city’s largest open-air dance floors. We wanted to create something that complements the club’s industrial aesthetic while also functioning well during daytime events, blending seamlessly with its existing structure and design.
To achieve this, we decided to design kinetic, innovative lamps that maintain a raw, industrial look while adding a dynamic visual element to the space.
Design:
I designed custom-made 3 m steel tubes constructed from perforated metal, each featuring a circular light with three COB RGB LED strips inside. These custom tubes were created to be mounted on rotator motors, using a touchless contact system to deliver power to the LEDs while rotating.
In addition, I designed (and we built) the rest of the lighting elements to match the overall concept of the kinetic installation.
Here are my renderings to showcase the design.

Programming:
I created a program in TouchDesigner that can run both in automatic mode and in music-reactive mode, allowing the installation to operate independently during events and weekends.
All lights were mapped in a 3D texture, enabling me to apply different visuals with various mapping structures. Thanks to AI-based processing, I also developed an automatic BPM detection system to keep the lights perfectly synchronized with the DJ’s beats.
Additionally, I used TouchDesigner to visualize and test the lighting effects during the programming process.

The goal was to create a structure that visitors can enjoy, which remains engaging even during the daytime, offering a unique way to create atmosphere in the Else club in Berlin.
