Living Stone Interactive Installation

Living Stones Church, located south of Reno, Nevada, commissioned me to create an interactive installation designed to engage children through play while celebrating the unique natural landscape surrounding Reno.

The concept transforms the region's environment into a series of immersive, interactive experiences where movement, exploration, and curiosity become the primary way of interacting with the installation. Rather than presenting a conventional digital display, the project encourages children to discover and shape the environment through their own actions, creating moments of wonder, collaboration, and exploration.

The installation consists of four connected interactive landscapes, each inspired by a different element of nature:

  • Sky – Children catch and interact with colorful balloons floating through animated clouds.

  • Lakeshore – Visitors jump across interactive stepping stones on the surface of a lake, with ripples and environmental effects responding dynamically to every movement.

  • Flower Meadow – As participants move through the landscape, vibrant flowers bloom beneath their feet while colorful butterflies emerge from their bodies, creating a magical connection between the visitor and the surrounding nature.

  • Underwater World – The experience continues beneath the surface, where children explore animated underwater vegetation as schools of fish react in real time, swimming away or gathering around the participants' movements

The entire installation was developed in TouchDesigner as a fully real-time interactive system. A custom interaction framework built around an Orbbec depth camera generates a live point cloud of each participant, enabling intuitive full-body interaction without requiring controllers or wearable devices.
